The basics

It never rains in Sal. From October to June, trade winds blow almost every day. From December to April, there are exceptional wind and wave conditions; the coldest months are from December to March. During this period, it is 22 to 25 degrees during the day and 18 to 20 degrees in the evening. The water temperature reaches 21 to 23 degrees Celsius. A 3mm wetsuit or shorty is recommended if you usually feel a little cold. The other months of the year are warmer, you can ride wearing a boardshort only. The Kite Beach spot lends itself to kitesurfing all season long, whether you are a beginner or an expert, freestyle or wave. From December to April, Cape Verde offers a multitude of spots for kitesurfing in the waves. Whether you're already an expert in strapless, or you want to learn how to ride your first wave with a directional board, the many spots on the west coast are perfect for all levels.
You must have a valid passport at least 6 months after the date of travel.
When you arrive at Santa Maria airport, you will have to pay a visa of 25 euros in cash or with credit card.
On Sal Island, you can pay in Euros and Cape Verdean escudos. At ATMs, you can withdraw escudos with Visa, Mastercard and Maestro.
No vaccines are required to travel to Cape Verde.
It is strongly recommended to drink only bottled water in the Cabo Verde archipelago.
Santa Maria is a safe destination. You can walk alone, day or night, and be completely safe. The Cape Verdeans are welcoming, smiling and have a great sense of hospitality. Nevertheless, Cape Verde remains a third world country and it is strongly advised not to leave your belongings on the terrace at night (even upstairs) and to close your windows when you sleep, as there are many robberies.
